The International Writers'
Workshop NZ Inc (IWW) is an enthusiastic group of writers who meet twice a month
to learn from experts and from each other in a collegial and convivial atmosphere.
We aim to encourage new writers to reach a higher standard of achievement in many
fields of writing and organise several competitions a year. Find out more at

The Workshop meets on the 1st and 3rd Tuesdays of

24 November 2025:
The 2025 results of The Kathleen Grattan Prize for a Sequence of Poems, judged by Anna Jackson, have been announced. Congratulations to winner Sue Wootton from Dunedin for her sequence “Holding Patterns: Seven songs of pots, jars, bowls and vases”, and runner-up Richard Smith from Wellington for his sequence "Mango Rains". 22 July 2025: The IWW AGM was held on Tuesday 2 September 2025, on Zoom. The Officers for 2025-2026 are listed on our Contacts page. John Leyland was elected Honorary Life Member at the AGM.

Subscriptions
Our subscription period is the calendar year and the annual subscription for 2025 is $30. A one-off $10 joining fee applies.
For new members the subscription may reduce after the last monthly competition of the year is due.

Kathleen Grattan Prize for a Sequence of Poems
IWW has been honoured to run the Kathleen Grattan Prize for a Sequence of Poems since 2009. The prize has been made possible by a bequest from the
Jocelyn Grattan Charitable Trust. The Kathleen Grattan Prize for a Sequence of Poems is open to current and honorary members of IWW. New members are welcome although to become eligible to enter this competition, applications for membership must be received by the third Tuesday in June. More ...
